1816791 Information About Don_Norman

Donald Arthur Norman (born December 25, 1935), a founder of The Cognitive Science Society [1], is an expert of cognitive science and is widely considered to be the first to apply advanced human factors to design via cognitive design. Professor Norman splits his time between co-directing the dual-degree MBA and Engineering program Northwestern University and consulting with the Nielsen Norman Group. Dr. Norman announced that the 2009-2010 academic year would be his last teaching full time[2]Professor Norman is an active Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology where he spends two months a year teaching. He also holds the title of Professor Emeritus of Cognitive Science at the University of California, San Diego[1].He is on numerous educational, private, and public sector advisory boards including the editorial board of Encyclopædia Britannica.Much of Norman's work involves the advocacy of Human Centered Design. His books all have the underlying purpose of furthering the field of design - from doors to computers. Norman has recently taken a controversial stance in saying that the design research community has had little impact in the innovation of products, and that whereas academics can help in refining existing products, it is technologists that accomplish the breakthroughs.[3]He co-founded the Nielsen Norman Group, a consulting group on matters of usability which also includes Jakob Nielsen and Bruce "Tog" Tognazzini (founder of the Human Interface Group at Apple). The Norman Group's list of clients spans from Hertz all the way to Microsoft.

1816788 Information About Bianca Riario

Bianca Riario (March 1478 - after 1522) was an Italian noblewoman. She was the eldest child and only daughter of Caterina Sforza, Lady of Imola, Countess of Forlì, by her first husband, Girolamo Riario, a nephew of Pope Sixtus IV.[1][2] She was married twice. Her first husband was Astorre III Manfredi, Lord of Faenza, and her second husband was Troilo I de' Rossi, 1st Marquis of San Secondo, 6th Count of San Secondo, by whom she had eight recorded children. The de' Rossi was one of the most prestigious noble families in Parma. Bianca was the half-sister of the celebrated condottiero Giovanni delle Bande Nere, to whom she acted as a substitute mother while their own mother, Caterina was held prisoner by Cesare Borgia.[3]Bianca was born in Rome, the eldest child and only daughter of Caterina Sforza and her first husband, Girolamo Riario. Her paternal grandparents were Paolo Riario and Bianca della Rovere, sister of Pope Sixtus IV. It was rumoured that Girolamo's actual father was his uncle, Pope Sixtus.[4] Her maternal grandparents were Galeazzo Maria Sforza, Duke of Milan, and his mistress Lucrezia Landriani.Bianca had five younger brothers from her mother's marriage to her father, a half-brother, Bernardino from her mother's second marriage to Giacomo Feo, and another half-brother from her mother's third and final marriage to Giovanni de' Medici il Popolano, who became known as the condottiero Giovanni delle Bande Nere.Bianca's early years were turbulent, marked by the violence, treachery, family rivalry amongst the city-states, and continuous warfare which were salient features of life in Renaissance Italy. In August 1484, in Rome, following the death of Pope Sixtus IV, the city was sacked by looters and malcontents. After her father's palace was ransacked and almost destroyed, Bianca, along with her mother and her brothers, sought refuge in Castle of Sant'Angelo. Her mother immediately took command of the fortress, and began a siege in order to monitor the election of the new Pope, and convince the Cardinals to negotiate with her. Caterina surrendered the fortress after Girolamo, who was Captain General of the Church, had taken a counterposition against her. Bianca and her family moved to Forlì and the Cardinals were able to meet in conclave.Pope Sixtus's successor, Giovanni Battista Cybo, was not the preferred candidate of the Riarios, but instead, a long-standing opponent who took the name Innocent VIII.

1816786 Information About Wipeout Pulse

AUS December 13, 2007
EU December 14, 2007
NA February 12, 2008
Playstation 2
EU June 24, 2009Wipeout Pulse is a racing game for the Sony PlayStation Portable, sequel to Wipeout Pure.[1] The game was officially announced on March 27, 2007 and was released on December 14, 2007 in Europe. A PlayStation 2 port was released on June 24, 2009 in Europe [1].The game is set in the year 2207. Players take part in the FX400 Anti-Gravity Racing League, competing in various types of race at several race courses set around the world.Wipeout Pulse is broadly similar to other games in the Wipeout franchise, and indeed to other racing games as a whole. The player drives futuristic hovering vehicles powered on a series of race tracks which they must navigate, and sometimes other vehicles to compete against. They are aided in this endeavor by the traditional Wipeout arsenal of weaponry (including rockets, missiles, plasma bolts, etc) and bursts of speed, both of which are gained by driving over special pads on the track; they are also allowed to choose between a number of different vehicles, each with their own handling characteristics. The game features electronic music and extraordinary visual and graphic design, two hallmarks of the Wipeout franchise; it also features downloadable content from the PlayStation Network, each containing a new vehicle and two new tracks, though only four have been released in Europe and are not yet available elsewhere in the world.Pulse delivers a number of new variations on this basic formula: while the game only ships with 12 tracks, these can be driven both forward and backwards; the race's direction is marked by the suffix "White" or "Black" on the race's title (i.e. "Talon's Junction White") and may show subtle variations depending on which way they are driven. Certain circuits also have "Mag-Strips" on some portion of the track, which lock the player's vehicle onto the track and allow for roller coaster-esque loops, sideways U turns, waterfall-like sheer drops, and so on. It also completely revamps the standard method of game progression. Most racing games (F-Zero, Mario Kart, Gran Turismo) present the player with a series of "cups" in which they must come in first while racing against opposition. Pulse players are instead challenged to complete "grids," a cluster of hexagons which represent a wide variety of tracks and race types: time trials; seven-lap "Best Lap" races in which the player attempts to achieve a particular lap time; single races against one opponent ("Head-to-Head" mode); single races against seven opponents ("Single Race"); multiple-track Tournaments (the cups of other games); "Eliminator" matches returning from Wipeout 3; and the "Zone" mode from Wipeout Fusion, in which the player attempts to survive as long as possible in a vehicle whose speed is slowly but infinitely accelerating. Players can race against the computer, against other human players within range of the PSP's built-in wireless card ("Ad-Hoc" mode), and over the Internet via a wireless network.

1816785 Information About Carolina Forest High School

Carolina Forest High School is located in Horry County, South Carolina, in the Carolina Forest attendance area. The school is one of nine high schools within Horry County Schools. The school serves parts of Myrtle Beach and eastern Conway. Approximately 1,843 students attend Carolina Forest High School (grades 9-12) each year. It is currently led by Principal Velna Allen.Carolina Forest High School was designed by LS3P Assosiates, Ltd. The school was built by Hay Construction Company, and construction was nearly complete when the school opened on August 25, 1997. The school opened as Carolina Forest Education Center and was originally designed and intended to serve grades 6-12. Although the combined middle school/high school idea has long since been abandoned, the 352,078 square foot, sixty acre facility is now used as a high school.Recent improvements to the school include full renovation of all science labs on the southwest side of campus and conversion of many of the auxiliary buildings into student amenity centers. In 1997, Carolina Forest Education Center opened and welcomed students from the Conway, Myrtle Beach, and Socastee attendance areas. The middle school opened with grades 6-8, but the high school opened with grades 9-10 only. Wendell Shealy was principal over the entire complex. The school was not complete when it opened, as several buildings were still under construction, particularly on the high school side. There was little in the way of landscaping, grass, and amenities. Kimmie Tomlinson, also known as "Miss Kimmie" led the effort to bring unity to the school by initiating several efforts to instill spirit and pride in the new school. Many students still felt connected to the schools they came from. It took a couple of years for CFHS to establish its own identity. Eventually the "Education Center" concept was scrapped. In later years, Shealy was made principal of Carolina Forest Middle School and Ron Malone became principal of Carolina Forest High School, although his tenure was short. There were a series of interim principals for the high school which created instability and a lack of progress. Rick Maxey assumed the principalship of CFHS from 1998-2000. Eventually, Maxey left Carolina Forest High School to become principal of Conway High School. Velna Allen, who had served as assistant principal under Maxey, became principal and remains in that post presently. Under her leadership, the school has grown and established itself as one of the leading academic schools in the county. Allen had been a mathematics teacher at Conway High School for several years prior to her administrative positions at CFHS. At the end of the 2004-2005 school year Wendell Shealy retired after a long and distinguished career. His vision and leadership laid the foundation for many of the programs taken for granted at both schools. Cindy Thibodeau became principal of Carolina Forest Middle School. At the end of the 2005-2006 school year Carolina Forest Middle School ceased to exist. Due to a population explosion in the Carolina Forest area, two new middle schools have been constructed: Ocean Bay Middle School and Blackwater Middle School. The old middle school section of the Carolina Forest Education Center has now been absorbed into the high school. The school now consists of 14 separate buildings: 7 Academic Hallways, a library building, an art studio, a journalism building, a fitness center, a drama building, an auxiliary building, and a central building containing the main offices, an auditorium, a cafeteria, two gymnasiums, and several classrooms. The modern facility offers our students in grades 9 – 12 numerous advantages, including advanced technology, modern science laboratories, advanced placement courses, college credits, honors, college preparatory, and career academic assistance classes. The Carolina Forest High School Panther family is dedicated to providing students with the educational challenges and opportunities that will prepare them to compete successfully as life-long learners in global society.

1816773 Information About Science Court

Science Court, an edutainment animated series from Tom Snyder Productions, aired on ABC's One Saturday Morning (now ABC Kids) in 1997. It was the closing show to Disney's One Saturday Morning as it aired at 11:30 am/12:30 pm. The cartoon was "filmed in" Squigglevision.“The half-hour program mixed courtroom drama, science experiments, and humor to teach fundamental concepts in elementary and middle school science such as the water cycle, work, matter, gravity, flight, and energy. As each case unfolded, the characters in the trial used humor to highlight scientific misconceptions and model good scientific practice.”[1] In a typical episode, a lawsuit or criminal action would take place based around some scientific point. Humor and musical numbers were used to breakdown scientific concepts. Science Court earned top television awards for Tom Snyder.[2] Science Court utilized Squigglevision as its style of animation. The primary characters of Science Court were the trial lawyers, Alison Krempel and Doug Savage. Alison Krempel voiced by Paula Plum, was modest, intelligent and kind. Her logical and articulate arguments always lead to the explanations of the scientific points. Doug Savage, voiced by Bill Braudis, was ignorant, arrogant and unscrupulous. Both Doug and Allison called on a variety of expert witnesses to prove their case. Doug, often to his detriment, called upon child academics Dr. Julie Bean and Dr. Henry Fullerghast to testify. Their scientific testimony disproved Doug’s case. Professor Parsons, voiced by H. Jon Benjamin served as an expert for Alison Krempel. He used science to successfully refute Doug Savage's ludicrous and ill-informed claims. Often Mihkaila and Tim, Miss Kremple's assistant, helped to breakdown scientific concepts. Comedians Paula Poundstone and Fred Stoller rounded out the cast playing Judge Stone and court stenographer Fred respectively.Science Court was only in production for one year. However, reruns of the show continued for a year after that, taking the name Squigglevision and adding segments such as "See Ya Later, Estimator" starring Professor Parsons. Although the show was not successful Tom Snyder has had great success parlaying all twelve of the episodes into a series of educational CD-ROMs with accompanying workbooks and experiment kits for schools. On December 2, 2004 Tom Snyder, founder and former CEO of Tom Snyder Productions, was inducted into the Association of Educational Publishers Hall of Fame to honor his extraordinary contribution to educational publishing.[2]

Luis W. Alvarez (June 13, 1911, San Francisco, California – September 1, 1988) was an American experimental physicist and inventor, who spent nearly all of his long professional career on the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley. The American Journal of Physics commented, "Luis Alvarez (1911–1988) was one of the most brilliant and productive experimental physicists of the twentieth century."[1]He was the author of 168 published papers in scientific journals, mostly in the field of physics, and was elected to the National Academy of Science in 1947 and the National Academy of Engineering in 1969. He was a member of the American Physical Society, a fellow in 1939, and served as President in 1969. He was awarded the Collier Trophy by the National Aeronautics Association in 1946. The trophy was presented by President Truman; and won the Presidential Medal for Merit in 1947. In 1960 he was named California Scientist of the Year; in 1961 he won the Albert Einstein Award. In 1963 he was presented the National Medal of Science by Lyndon B. Johnson; in 1965 the Michelson Award; in 1978 he received the University of Chicago Alumni Medal and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. In 1987, the US Department of Energy granted him its Enrico Fermi award.[2]He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1968, and received over 40 patents, some of which proved commercially viable. The Alvarez family was of Spanish American descent. Alvarez was the son of Walter C. Alvarez, a doctor who for a time was a researcher at the Mayo Clinic, and of Harriet Smythe, and a grandson of Luis F. Alvarez, a doctor in Hawaii who found a better method for diagnosing macular leprosy. His aunt, Mabel Alvarez, was a California artist specializing in oil painting. Alvarez married Geraldine Smithwick in 1936 and had two children, Walter and Jean. In 1958 married Janet L. Landis and had two more children, Donald and Helen.Alvarez was educated at the University of Chicago, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1932, his master's degree in 1934, and his PhD in 1936. In 1932, while still a graduate student at Chicago, Alvarez constructed an apparatus of Geiger counter tubes arranged as a cosmic ray telescope, and under the aegis of his faculty advisor Arthur Compton, conducted an experiment in Mexico City to measure the so-called East–West effect of the cosmic rays. Observing more incoming radiation from the west Alvarez correctly concluded that primary cosmic rays were positively charged, a fact unknown at the time. Following the receipt of his degree he joined Ernest Lawrence's group at the Radiation Laboratory at UC Berkeley in 1936.[3]

Michelle Urry (December 28, 1939 - October 15, 2006, born Michelle Dorothy Kaplan) was the cartoon editor of Playboy magazine for over 30 years. Together with Hugh Hefner, she edited the retrospective Playboy: 50 Years The Cartoons. Among the cartoonists whose career she is credited with developing is B. Kliban. On learning of her death, Jules Feiffer told the New York Times she was the "mother superior to cartoonists."Urry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a child, she collected comic books rather than the dolls favored by other girls of her age. She graduated from UCLA, and after running a dress shop she moved to Chicago, taking a low-level staff job with Playboy in the late 1960s. By 1971 Urry had become the magazine's cartoon editor, and she held that post until her death. In 1974, while visiting B. Kliban in his San Francisco studio, Urry was struck by a group of Kliban's offhand cartoons of cats, bought several of them, and prodded Kliban to create a book-length collection of similar work. [1] Kliban's Cat became a best-selling book the next year, and spawned a wide range of popular merchandise. She married sculptor Stephen Urry and the couple had one child, Caleb Urry. After Stephen's death in 1993, she married Alan Trustman, a screenwriter who is best known for The Thomas Crown Affair and Bullitt.Aside from her primary job at Playboy, Urry served as a cartoon editor or consulting editor at many other magazines, including Good Housekeeping and Modern Maturity.
